Family Reunions and other roadside oddities

Between the cool attractions on Route 66 and the interesting variety of activities at the Family Reunion, Oklahoma held a certain quirky attraction in itself. The Reunion fun 'n' games ranged from a giant jigsaw to a water gun fight.

The G's and kids they met at the Blue Whale on Route 66 in Oklahoma. This used to be a cool swimming hole, but now fishing off the Blue Whale is the main attraction. (Water) Gunfight at the OK Corral...or rather the OK Family Reunion in Tulsa. Since it was in the high 90's, a water gun fight between Granddaughter and Grandpa was just the ticket!

Finally, defeated by the heat and the prospect of even hotter weather as we were to follow old Route 66 via I-40 through AZ, NM, and southern NV and CA, we aborted to a more northerly route up through Kansas then west through Colo. where we camped along Clear Creek in Golden and watched the kayakers.

The view from the campground in Golden.

And best of all, it went down into the 50's at night and only in the low 80's during the day. All this and spectacular scenery, too!

That sure beats the heat of the southern route, and a wonderful backdrop to boot!
